I write cozy craft mysteries with a touch of romance, set in Sidney-by-the-Sea on Canada’s west coast. My stories are inspired by real people, small-town life, and a lifelong love of needlework.
I’ve been a needlework designer since 1989 and am the founder of The Victoria Sampler. Years of designing samplers and cross-stitch patterns shape my fiction, so if you enjoy a good mystery, coastal settings, and the world of stitching and crafts, you’ll feel right at home here.
If you enjoy my novels, I’d be grateful if you’d leave a short review on your local Amazon site. Reviews help other readers discover my books. Thank you sew much for visiting! – Thea
"I just wanted to tell you how much I have enjoyed your first two books and can't wait for the third. Your ability to create a wonderful story is only matched by your incredible designs over the years. You've made me want to move to Sidney! I just downloaded the little blue house to stitch. It's the kind of house I wouldn't mind living in! So, please keep doing the lovely things that you do and I'll keep reading and stitching."

"One of the best murder mystery stories I’ve read. I couldn’t put the book down until I’d finished it! It is well written and easy to read. The plot is fascinating and keeps the reader involved until the very last page - and then waiting in anticipation for book 2. I highly recommend this book!."

"Such a fantastic book. Well written, and easy to follow the plot. Loved the book so much, I read it in two days. Then my husband read it in four days, which is a record for him. Already read the second book and am impatiently waiting for the third."

"This new author sure knows how to write a great book. I enjoyed it from the first page to the last. Her delightful descriptions of Sidney-by-the-sea make a person want to check out Vancouver Island. The plot and its reference to embroidery designs, related to the mystery seemed to tickle my fancy. LOVE the clever cover of the book. So... I'm eagerly waiting for the 2nd book to the Threadneedle Street Mysteries."

"A delightful cozy mystery, with twists and turns that propelled me to keep reading to find out what happens next! Meticulous detail shines throughout this novel, and I felt the conversations and emotions of the various characters were true to real life. Thea Dueck is a talented author as well as an accomplished needlework designer and embroiderer! I am eager to read her next book in the series and engage further with Grace, Daniel, Maria and Tessa!"

Hello, dear readers!
There is a small but important correction. A few days after A Pattern of Lies was published, an e-book editing error briefly introduced some odd word substitutions into the text. Print books were not affected. Thanks to some kind readers, it was caught quickly and corrected immediately by me. If you downloaded the e-book during the first week, your e-book copy may be affected. If anything reads strangely, I'm very sorry.
The fix is simple:
1. Paid e-book readers, please go to 'Manage Your Content and Devices' on Amazon, find 'A Pattern of Lies', and select 'Update Available' if it appears. Or contact Amazon customer Service to push the corrected file to your device. (For future updates, you can also enable 'Automatic Book Updates' in your Preferences tab).
2. Kindle Unlimited readers can return the e-book and then borrow it again to get the corrected file.
Thank you for your patience, and for reading the series. - Thea
